Christopher Fernandes, MS, AMFT

Christopher uses a client-centered, humanistic approach to help clients uncover their inner strengths, embrace their authentic selves, cultivate meaningful relationships, and develop a deep sense of well-being. 

Christopher is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT130336) practicing at Coast Therapy Associates, Inc. under the clinical supervision of Jessica Irving, MA, LPCC, AT-R. He holds a Master's degree in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University. His past clinical experience includes providing therapy at the SLO Counseling Services at Cal Poly, the Wellness Center at Atascadero High School, and at Aronsen Counseling Services, Inc.. 

Christopher's work integrates existential, humanistic, attachment-based, mindfulness-based, cognitive, behavioral, and gestalt techniques. From that foundation, he provides dynamic support tailored to the needs and goals of his clients. He is known for a gentle, non-pathologizing, and compassionate approach. 

Christopher is an LGBTQIA+ ally; he provides a safe space for those who identify as gay, queer, trans, or gender non-conforming—including any person exploring their sexual, gender, or personal identity. He is also a BIPOC ally; he provides a safe place to explore and process the impact of systemic racism and cultural injustices—including any person navigating oppressive systems, no matter their cultural identity or background.
